CASA MISSION STATEMENT
CASA of San Luis Obispo County advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children within the court system. CASA recruits, trains and supervises volunteers who advocate for this vulnerable population with the goal of ensuring that each and every child grows up in a safe, nurturing and permanent home.

CASA - Court Appointed Special Advocates

CASA volunteers are appointed by a judge to help determine the best possible outcome for an abused or neglected child’s future. It is the goal of the CASA volunteer to place every one of these children into a safe, permanent home and to give them hope for a better life.

CASA volunteers are people with a desire to help abused children. Volunteers come from all walks of life and receive training from professionals in the legal and welfare fields. After training, CASA volunteers have the complete support of the CASA organization with advocate supervisors to advise them on all aspects of their cases. Volunteers generally work 12-15 hours each month.

CASA volunteers review records, research information and talk to everyone involved—social workers, attorneys, judges, parents, teachers, family members and, of course, the children themselves. Being a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer is a gratifying experience that touches not only the life of a child but that of the volunteer as well.

Education Advocacy Program

CASA educational advocates provide direct advocacy for children under the jurisdiction of the juvenile court. Its library houses  videos, audio tapes, books, and other materials addressing learning disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, emotional disturbance, special education laws, advocacy skills, learning tools for special education students, and many other topics.

FRIENDS of CASA

CASA now has a FRIENDS of CASA volunteer chapter headed by Patt Fuller. This chapter's goal is to support CASA by assisting in community outreach, special projects, and by helping with clerical tasks in the office. For more information about volunteering with the Friends of CASA, contact Patt at 541-6542 or pfuller@slocasa.org.
